Privacy and Cookie Notice

This notice explains how Tellast processes information when you browse the site, create an account, write or vote on stories, use Google sign-in, or allow optional measurement.

Last updated: July 28, 2026

Information Tellast processes

Tellast processes only the information needed to operate, protect, improve and measure the collaborative storytelling service.

  • Account information: username, email address, password hash for email registrations, account status, roles and confirmation dates.
  • Google sign-in information: the verified email address returned by Google and the generated or chosen Tellast username.
  • Community activity: stories, continuations, votes, moderation records and the account associated with those actions.
  • Technical and security information: request details, IP-derived security signals, browser or device information, timestamps, error records and abuse-prevention results.
  • Preference information stored in your browser: selected language and your privacy choice.
  • Privacy correspondence: the sender address, subject, message content and any attachment you choose to email to Tellast's contact address.

Cookies and browser storage

Tellast uses strictly necessary storage for authentication, session security, request protection and short-lived workflow state. These functions cannot be switched off through the optional measurement choice.

  • Authentication and security cookies keep you signed in, refresh the session securely and protect state-changing requests.
  • Language storage remembers the interface language you selected.
  • The consent preference key remembers whether optional Google Analytics and Google Ads storage is accepted or denied.
  • A short-lived, HttpOnly marker lets the first successful Google registration report at most one registration conversion; it contains no email address or story content.

Google Analytics, Google Ads and your choice

Tellast uses Google Analytics to understand site use and Google Ads to measure whether advertising leads to a completed registration. Consent Mode v2 defaults analytics and advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalization to denied until an explicit choice is available.

If you choose necessary-only, optional Analytics and Ads storage remains disabled. Under advanced consent mode, Google tags may still send limited cookieless measurement signals. If you allow analytics and ads, Google may use measurement identifiers and storage according to your choice and Google's terms.

Tellast's registration conversion event does not include your email address, username, password or story content. You can change your choice at any time using Privacy choices in the footer or the button on this page.

Service providers

Tellast uses providers only for the functions described below. Their processing is also governed by their own terms and privacy notices.

  • Google: sign-in, reCAPTCHA abuse protection, Analytics and Ads measurement, and restricted Gmail delivery of privacy correspondence.
  • Amazon Web Services: object storage, transactional email, application messaging, and receiving and forwarding mail sent to Tellast's contact address.
  • EmailListVerify: verification of an email address submitted for manual registration.
  • OpenAI: automated content moderation and preparation of structured visual scene information from story text.
  • Black Forest Labs / FLUX: generation of story images from derived visual instructions.

Public and collaborative content

Stories, continuations, displayed usernames and voting outcomes are intended to be public. Other readers can build on accepted continuations, so removing or changing published collaborative content may affect the integrity of the shared story. Where appropriate, Tellast may restrict, remove or anonymize account associations while preserving the coherent public story history.

Do not place private, confidential or unnecessary personal information in a story or continuation.

Why information is used

  • To create and secure accounts, authenticate users and provide requested story features.
  • To publish collaborative content, record votes and preserve story and moderation integrity.
  • To prevent spam, fraud, abuse and unsafe content.
  • To deliver confirmation messages and operational notices.
  • To receive and respond to privacy questions and personal-information requests.
  • With your applicable choice, to understand usage and measure advertising performance.

Retention and control

Account and community records are retained while needed to provide the service, maintain collaborative data integrity, protect Tellast and its users, and meet applicable obligations. Security logs and temporary workflow data are retained only for their operational purpose. Browser preferences remain until you change them or clear browser storage.

A clean privacy email is removed from temporary Amazon S3 storage after it is forwarded to the restricted mailbox. A failed or oversized message remains in protected S3 storage for no more than seven days. Privacy correspondence in the restricted mailbox is retained only as needed to respond, document the request and meet applicable obligations.

You may ask about, correct or request deletion of personal information associated with your account. A request may be limited where information must be retained for security, legal obligations or the integrity of an already published collaborative story. Tellast will explain the applicable outcome when responding.

Changes to this notice

This notice may be updated when Tellast's features or providers change. The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected here before or when the related processing changes.
